I was returning after a nice couple of miles of paddle exercise and a couple of fishermen saw me (the old man with a white beard) and came to assist me putting the canoe on the SUV. When I turned around they saw me finish loading the canoe on the roof. They said with some surprise in their voice, "looks like you have done that a lot of times before." I thanked them for their offer of assistance but did not tell them this was the first time I had tried to self load my canoe on this rig. I have this group to thank for what I have learned on this site. I had modified some old pike poles to make a ramp to slide my canoe onto my new SUV. I also used the loops under the hood trick to tie down the bow. I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.
